Unofficial Death Knight guide

Finally, it's out! The Wrath of the Lich King. Anyone who has played WOW for any length of time has been looking forward to this. And I know many people are complaining about WOW just trying to sucker us out of more money with each new expansion pack.

But come one, for god's sake! If they don't expand the game we would get bored eventually. I remember reaching level 50 with my Druid and thinking hmmm...now what. Sure I can help out lower level players, or start another character up and start from scratch....but I want to keep leveling!

And of course they are going to charge us for it! Jeez, do you have any idea how much goes into R & D, I mean have you looked at the game lately? So quit bitching and shell out the bucks to the new expansion pack!

Ok sorry, didn't mean to go on a rant there, besides this is about the new class...The Death Knight! Excellent! Don't get me wrong, I love the new lands to explore, but a new class opens up a whole new venue in the game. And it's a hero class no less!

Ok...so the low down on the new class. Well first off it's WoW's first hero class. The Death Knight, having been released from servitude from the Lich King, start their quest across Azeroth's battle fields with a butt load of armor and quite an array of wicked "forbidden" magic, learned from the Lich King.

At the time of this posting WoW has not made a guide yet available for this class like they have for the Warriors, Druids, Priests, etc. So unfortunately you're going to be scrounging around for information till WoW get's it together and puts one together. So in the meantime what do you do?

Well that's what this page is here for! I will be scouring the web digging up all I can on tips, tricks, hints, and everything else I can find on the Death Knight build. So check back often and feel free to leave any comments or suggestions on other sites with info on this wicked new class.

Ok for starters you can't create a Death Knight unless you have at least one level 55 character. Any race can be a Death Knight. You'll need to check out all the stats before you decide which race you want to use. Tauren is the best for strength and health, Night Elf for armor and agility, Gnomes and Blood Elf take the top marks for intellect, Dwarf for stamina, and Undead for spirit.

Equipment use is: Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate Mail
Weapons :
Axes, Polearms, Swords, Two-Handed Axes, Two-Handed Swords, One-handed Maces, Two-Handed Maces

Strengths & Weaknesses:

Strenth: can wear all armor types and wield most weapons
Weakness: can't use shields or ranged weapons

Strength: mixes Melee attacks with Frost and Shadow ranged spells
Weakness: more dependent on abilities than passive defense for survivability

Strength: Rune system means virtually unlimited energy
Weakness: dependent on rune cool downs and runic power generation

Additional Strengths:
  • Blood abilities provide self healing
  • Can return at will to the Ebon Hold
  • Free mounts and weapon enchants available only to Death Knights
  • A hero class - starts at level 55
The Talent Tree for the Death Knight consists of the following:
  1. Blood - focuses on weapons, armor, and strikes
  2. Frost - control, counters, and combos
  3. Unholy - for spells, summons, and diseases

The Death Knight is also a decent tank for small groupings and his damage output is not to bad. As a Death Knight you have the core ability to raise a ghoul companion from the corpses of fallen creatures as well as those of other players, both friend or enemy. If cast upon a friendly player that player actually has the ability to play as a ghoul controling the ghouls actions and movements.

In addition the Death Knight can also call up an Army of the Undead. This spell will causes a group of undead to raise up and fight the Death Knights enemies, but only for a short period of time, they will then begin to disinegrate.

The Death Knight can also summon a level 40 version of the death charger mount and at higher levels can complete quests to learn the epic mount.

The use of Runes and and Runic power are the Death Knights bread and butter, you will need to use them efficiently to maximize your damage ability and for tanking. Depending on what you are doing may require individual runes or combinations of them. And of course you have the customary cool down period before using them again.

During the use of Runes the Death Knight creates a resource called Runic Power, which is required for certain abilities, in addition if the Runic Power is not used during a specific period of time, it will deteriorate similar to the Warrior class Rage ability.

That's it for the moment. I am heading out and about to dig up as much as possible on the Death Knight class. Check back often for more info. And if you haven't started yet, get yourself a Death Knight and start kick some butt!

The following bug fix as reported by http://www.goldmmo.com

There is a wotlk bug currently affecting the creation of Wotlk Death Knights after you have installed Wrath of the Lich King.

If you get an error when creating the Wotlk Death Knight, and you have met the requirements of having a level 55 character on the server in which you're creating the Death Knight wotlk, just make a new level 1 character first.

After that character is created, you can then create your WOW Wotlk Death Knight without any more problems.

I have to wonder how the wotlk bug came to be, and why they weren't able to fix it. We probably won't know either of those answers. But at least we have a quick and dirty fix to bug wotlk.
